As I view our unusually cloudy day and feel the cool winter winds in the Sonoran Desert, the sizzling Southwest summer temperatures seem so far away. But those sunny hot days (and a little water) help to create a backyard harvest of a diverse selection of chile peppers - which can also be sizzling or muy picante caliente (very spicy hot)!
Meeting deadlines may be the most significant element of being a successful journalist. But what transpires when deadlines are no longer enforced by others but become ones that must be self-imposed? How do you hold yourself accountable in that regard and in other areas of life like healthy eating habits?
I suspect that part of the nurture of my family cultivated my “need” to be hospitable. Some of my earliest memories are of my mom cooking for church events - not that hospitality is about serving and cooking for only church family and friends. Hospitality is about serving others, particularly in your home; it is a way to share the love you have in your heart which in turn should manifest itself into loving and caring for others. We are commanded: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Even though our token camping excursions when we were younger to the beach in Mexico and on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon were enjoyable, I have never really been one for camping. With the purchase of an RV, I am adapting though by applying my Type-A preparations even to this lifestyle in order to continue to travel the country.
